marriage in thailandWhy wonder foreigners choose Thailand as a place to have a wedding? Thailand is one of the romantic place, lots of beautiful loving, responsible, religious Thai’s and cost of living is affordable when it comes to expenses such as foods, accommodation and transportation.

 

Foreigners can marry either Thai citizen or other foreign nationals. Certain paper works is needed. Foreigners to get married in Thailand, clearance from their respective embassies must be obtained, however some embassies have different procedures for providing the clearance. Generally foreigners must obtain an affidavit which states the name of the foreigner as well as the personal details such as citizenship and legal freedom to marry and this must be translated to Thai and legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok and obtain a Certificate of Residency. After completing the documents you need to bring to the local district office also called ‘Amphur’ or ‘Khet’   and apply for a Thai marriage license and the process can be completed in 3-4 days.

Documents NEEDED to register marriage

-Legalized documents by the MFA
1. affirmation of freedom to marry(affidavit)
2. translation of this affidavit in Thai
-Copy of your Passport (must be valid for atleast 6months)
-Original divorce or death certificate of your late/ex spouse if any.
And your future Thai spouse will need the documents
-his/her National ID Card or Valid ID card
-his/her house registration certificate

If any:
-his/her original divorce or death certificate of his/her late/ex spouse
-some documents showing a change in his/her name
